This is another of those expert recipes. Much was left out, but experience tells me that one should use a blender to grind together the almonds and chocolate; and fold the egg whites into the batter just before pouring it into the pan. In only one way this recipe is like the King James Bible, in that I have italicized the words that do not appear in the original, but are necessary to make sense of the recipe. Unlike the King James Bible, it has whiskey in it.
¼ pound sweet butter
1 cup sugar
½ pound almonds
½ pound chocolate bits
6 eggs, separated
2 tablespoons whiskey
2 teaspoons baking powder
Heat oven to 325°.
In a blender, grind almonds and chocolate together.
Mix ¼ pound butter, sugar and the egg yolks. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff.
And ground nuts and chocolate. Add whiskey and baking powder. Fold the egg whites gently into this batter.
Pour into buttered springform pan, and bake for 1 ¼ hours.
