Chocolate Cut-Out Cookies

(Adapted from “Mom’s Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies”)

8 ½ cups flour
6 cups sugar
2 cups Crisco
1 ½ cups milk
3 cups cocoa
3 eggs
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons vanilla

In a large bowl, make a nest out of the flour. Combine all other ingredients in a separate bowl and pour into the center of the nest. Stir slowly in the center, using only the amount of flour needed to make a dough of handling consistency.

On a floured surface, roll the dough out to a ¼ inch thickness. Cut with your favorite cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheet, decorated with either colored sugar or sprinkles, or any combination thereof. Bake for 7 – 10 min. or until the cookies are a pale golden color. Makes 12 – 14 dozen cookies.
