The texture of the finished confection is less like a crunchy cookie and more like that of a cake.
Sour Milk:
½ cup milk
½ teaspoon white vinegar
1 ¾ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup shortening
1 ¼ cups sugar
2 eggs
3/8 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Heat oven to 350°.
Stir together the milk and vinegar. Set aside.
Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a mixing bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar. Add well-beaten eggs; stir in cocoa. Beat the sour milk until smooth and add to cocoa mixture, alternating with sifted mixture. Add vanilla and mix well.
Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 min.
